About Me
Tatumn D. Vaught
Thanks for reading more about me!
My hometown of Huntly sits among the Blue Ridge mountains off the Shenandoah National Park and is populated by only 729 people. I grew up on a cattle farm where I enjoy hiking, fishing, equestrian, riding ATVs, and many more outdoor activities with my family and friends.
Just a mile down the road from my farm is a small private school that I attended my whole life, PS-12th grade, called Wakefield Country Day School. They base their studies on a classical education, which focuses on writing, giving me an excellent foundation for journalism at an early age. Due to the size of the school, I could embrace many leadership opportunities by captaining sports teams or being president of clubs, but when on the college hunt, I knew that I wanted my opportunities to grow. I applied to fifteen large DI sports schools and desired a prestigious communications program.
After graduating high school with seventeen people, I moved twelve hours away to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and immediately knew it felt like home.
I first earned my bachelor's degree in Sports News Media, graduating in 2021. Each year at UA, I found numerous opportunities for my career, including The Crimson White, WVUA-fm radio, and WVUA 23 news. These internships allowed me to adapt quickly to the media world and learn real-life skills outside the classroom.
After graduating from my undergraduate program, I felt my time at UA wasn't complete. I was accepted into graduate school and earned my M.A. in Kinesiology, Sports Management in May of 2023.
In grad school, I explored a variety of specializations in sports management from my classes, from finance to law. I met professionals in the field and interned with numerous colleges to gain more experience. No matter what career direction I choose, I promised myself at an early age that I would work in a field that made me happy, so choosing a career in sports was a no-brainer for me.
I've been involved in and played sports since I was four and never looked back. I always knew that I wanted sports to be a part of my life, whether it was participating in them on the court, reporting about them, or managing them. Luckily, my desires have been easily fulfilled at UA, and I'm forever indebted to the university that gave me lifelong memories, friends, experiences, and pride. Winning two national championships may have helped, but I am incredibly thankful to be an alumnus at a Championship School like Alabama.
Despite loving my home of Virginia and Tuscaloosa, my life has now brought me to West Palm Beach, and I look forward to continuing my journey in South Florida!
