FINALLY. The 30 for 30 we've been waiting for for 22 years. The end of Michael Jordan's career with the Chicago Bulls. Not only do we get to watch the golden years of MJ, but ESPN is including Scottie Pippen, Dennis Rodman, and Phil Jackson's action as well.
COVID-19 has made for a perfect release time, despite the tragic circumstance of a pandemic occurring. Everyone is trapped in their homes, simple as that, which will make for a large viewing audience of the ESPN "30 for 30" series. This will be a 10-hour series, releasing two episodes each week from April 19th-May 17th, that will showcase the 1997-98 Bulls team, led by Michael Jordan.
ESPN's Ramona Shelburne hosts and Mike Tollin produces the much-awaited series that will be watched by quarantined households across the country. This is key to the story since MJ didn't want just anyone sharing his one of a kind story.
“Dear Michael, everyday kids come into my office wearing your shoes, who’ve never seen you play. It’s time, ” Tomlin said.
He controlled all his footage and knew he had to trust someone who would tell his story right. The world was just waiting for MJ, which was okay because everyone would. Frank Marshall, Spike Lee, and actor Danny DeVito all attempted to complete this series, but it was never done. Jordan also knew this is what would bring his own story to an end, which is what he didn't want
"Most of them were trying to pitch your standard 80-minute documentary, but such a short time span would’ve sold the story short. How could one capture Jordan and the Bulls’ mythos, especially in such a season of turmoil, in just an hour and a half?," Fansided's Gerald Bourguet said.
The first two episodes of, "The Last Dance," will premiere on Sunday, April 19th at 9 p.m. EST.
