The Mcadory Yellowjackets traveled to Northridge High School on Friday night for their annual homecoming game. It was a battle for the third in the 6A Region4 playoffs, but the Jaguars clinched it with a 26-7 win at home when Mcadory struggled by turning the ball over all night.
The ball flew from the hands of one quarterback to another in the first quarter as Jackets’ junior No.8 Cameron Shepherd threw a long ball into the arms of Northridge senior No.14 Zach Bates for the first interception of the night.
Mcadory tried to turn their luck around, but the same outcome arose for the Yellowjackets. No.27 wide receiver David Livingston picked off the ball to regain possession for the Jaguars.
Mcadory finally found themselves in the red zone before the half, but it did not last long. Shepherd looked to pass to his teammates to score but instead, the ball was tipped into the hands of freshman Travaris Banks. Not only did Northridge gain the pick-6, but they took it all the way to the house!
Jaguars’ second quarterback, sophomore Kollyn Shelnutt, came into the game in the second quarter and made some moves. Shelnutt handed the ball off to Lieric Street for another Northridge touchdown.
When it seemed like an all Jaguar ball game, Jackets’ junior No.15 Ken’darrius Kelley sacked Shelnutt to move the momentum towards Mcadory. It was not enough for the Yellowjackets, as Northridge set up a play in the red zone and did not waste any time. Sophomore Patrick Hall took it in for yet another Jaguar touchdown.
Northridge won the bout against Mcadory and moved their record to 7-2 overall. The Jaguars will travel to Northport on Friday to play the Tuscaloosa County Wildcats in a non-conference matchup. Mcadory will be fourth going into the playoffs and will travel to play Spanish Fort this week in hopes to strengthen their 4-6 overall record.
