TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- In Saturday’s doubleheader, the Tide didn’t have any better luck against 25th ranked Auburn than Friday’s game for the series in Tuscaloosa. The Tide lost a 0-5 shutout at the earlier game that began at 5 p.m. at The Joe. They proceeded to also fall at the 8:40 p.m. game with a final score of 5-20 runs. While the stadium was sold out for both games, and fans came from all over the state to watch, Auburn clinched the series early on and left the Tide in the dust, changing their conference record to 5-13 in the SEC.
In game one, Alabama began with their pitcher Jake Walters, who despite the final outcome, pitched very well had several strikeouts in the night. While Auburn didn’t score until the top of the third inning, they were consistent after that, scoring two in the fifth, one in the seventh, and a final in the ninth. Cobie Vance, for the Tide, was the top hitter, which included a double. Jett Manning also had some great plays on the field, yet not enough to stop the Tigers from stealing the game.
Game two was even more brutal than the first. In the very first four innings, Auburn scored eight runs, and despite the fact that Alabama earned four in the fifth with Auburn’s pitching errors and loaded bases, a monster eighth innings included 11 runs by the Tigers which clinched the win. Cobie Vance was still the top hitter for the Tide, and Hunter Alexander top on the field with eight outs, yet it didn’t help with a final score of 5-20, Auburn.
The Tide plays Troy University Tuesday, April 24th at 6 p.m. at Sewell-Thomas Stadium, as well as available on SEC Network+.
