TUSCALOOSA, Ala.- The Tide hosted their second game of the week in Sewell-Thomas Stadium on Wednesday night starting at 6 p.m. against Alcorn State from Alcorn, Mississippi. The Tide holds a 21-1 record against the Braves since they began facing off, and they’re coming off a three-game losing streak against Seattle University this past weekend. While the Braves are 3-12 in the SWAC conference, and the Tide is in the SEC, the two made for a good match up.
Jalen Hurts, Alabama football quarterback, threw out the first pitch to kick off the game. While both teams were scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning, Alabama soon took control of the game with Alexander hitting to left-center field, bringing Avant in for the Tide’s first run. The very next batter, Praytor, hit a fly ball that led Alexander in for the second run of the game. Tyler Adams was subbed in at the top of the fifth to keep the streak going with great pitches and still held the Braves from scoring. A double play in the top of the sixth pushes the Tide at-bat, with Avant, Alexander and Taylor back at the plate for some solid hits. After an out at first and Alexander on second, there was a throwing error by the Braves as Alexander stole third and headed home, putting the Tide up 3-0. Adams continued with a great game, throwing strikes at the top of the eight that allowed the Tide to go back in the bull-pin and to bat. With two subs to center field and Connor Stutts on the mound at the top of the ninth, the Tide clinched a shutout and a 3-0 win against Alcorn State.
The team plays Auburn at home this weekend for a series on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The games are at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 1 p.m. and are also available on the SEC Network to watch. Be sure to stop by to support the annual rival games and give a big Roll Tide!
